Rock and Pop: Music as Therapy?
Question by Now Let Them Tremble: Rock and Pop: Music as Therapy?
Do any of you guys here in R&P use music as “therapy”?
As in, when you’re in a bad mood, like sad, you listen to sad songs to relate to them, then you listen to a Happy song to cheer up, etc.
I do that, and it always works.
BQ: Will y’all re-add me to your contacts? I got fricking suspended for nothing. Stupid arseholes.
Dude, Emo is a genre of music.
Not a person.

When I’m sad I usually listen to fast paced music like Apocalyptica’s song “Path” and get all of my sad/angry energy out in like 3 to 4 minutes. Then I feel better

I do, occasionally.
BA: Okay. ^-^

I do. When feeling sad, I pop on some good acoustic rock and play along with my guitar. When happy or mad, usually some Pantera or Slayer.
Edit: Oh god. The Emo music thing. I was a product of the 80/90s. Ever heard of “New Wave”? It was depressing as hell – I couldn’t stand it back then. Some knucklehead decided to bring it back with distortion and call it Emo.

Yeah, I do all the time! Has helped me get through alot in my life. Now, I don’t even know when I’m doing it.
God, I hate how people keep acting like “emo” is someone, it’s not. Get over it already! People are lame.

Usually when I feel down or upset, I listen to Sevendust, some of their anger songs ease up the tension in me.

If I am down or whatever, I listen to the music that I love and it always helps…..thats why I love my music, I can listen to it, no matter what…..haha

Music is therapy, whether you’re playing it, listening to it, singing it, or whatever.
“music calms the savage beast”
“To listen to the blues is to be healed, to play the blues is to be a healer.”
these are cliche’ for a reason. yeah, it’s the only thing that brings me where I need to be.

Yes, along with other hobbies but music sure beats anything else when in need of mending one’s heart, other than chocolate of course, or just straightening your thoughts over tough situations.
BQ: I don’t think you were a contact. But I suppose I’ll add if you don’t mind.

BA: yeah, I added you =D

Music always has an effect on my emotions, even when I don’t realise it. For example, some music will make me cry when I didn’t even know I was feeling *that* upset, or it will suddenly have me bouncing around the room in euphoria, or draw-out my darker feelings {early Delerium is great for a mix of all three!}.
This is also why I use it a lot to help my think about situations in the plot of the novel I’m writing…

Yeah, i do do that a HUGE amount. In fact i dont think i can put it better than you did!

You’re crazy ~ Guns n’ Roses
And heres a few i listen to sometimes when im sad (but other times too lol!);
Wish you Were Here ~ Pink Floyd
Mother ~ Pink Floyd
Yesterdays ~ Guns n’ Roses
This Love ~ Pantera
Oh, and i would highly recommend absolutely any of them, in case you’re wondering…!
