Is this guy a dead beat?

October 24, 2011 By: harvey96 Category: Uncategorized 3 Comments →

Question by Notyme4BS: Is this guy a dead beat?
I posted this question yesterday, but I didn’t get a lot of resposnes so I’m reposting it.

I sat through a divorce trial for a class I took in college. I just happened to be between the principal of a local PUBLIC high school and his stay at hom wife. The couple had two children, one was a special needs child. When they were married the children were in private school. After the split the father didn’t want to pay for private school & wanted the children in public school. He even testified as his own expert witness on the ability of the public schools to provide special education (and the judge allowed him to testify as an expert witness on this matter).

The wife was asking child support, the marital home, that the children remain in public school, AND (now brace yourself) she wanted alimony until she went back to school to get her masters in speech therapy…and she didn’t have a bachelors. The wife had previously worked in private schools as a music educator and giving private lessons; however, she had no formal education.

I didn’t get to see the entire trial, just one day. However, the judge did admonish her for asking for too much. He said that he doesn’t think that he can order the father to continue to pay for private school (and asked her attorney to see if he can find case law on the topic). He also admonised her by saying, “You got married at 27 years old. You had an opportunity to get an education before the marriage. I’ll give you alimony, but definitely not in the amount you’re asking for and for long enough for you to get a masters. I’m sorry, but you’re going to have to get a job”.

I didn’t get to see the end of the trial, and this was year ago. However, I would like to hear some opinions as to why the father’s responsibilities should have been either personal opinion or according to the law?

BTW this was in California.

Question by Living Is Musically Outrageous: Intrested to know what people NOT into hip hop, think of this style of rap?
i listen to a lot of different types of music, but i do think hip hop is the most negatively streotyped/misuderstood, i just want to see what people on this section of Y/A think of these songs

“How Do You Sleep”

“Speech Therapy”

“The End”

“In All The Wrong Places”

this is more aimed at people into indie/folk but NOT into hip hop

What do you think of this idea for Music Therapy in Bipolar Disorder?

Question by Snox: What do you think of this idea for Music Therapy in Bipolar Disorder?
I term this specific type of therapy “Jukebox Therapy”. Write down 5 songs you like. The next time you listen to the radio or watch musiv videos have a a pen at hand. Write down every song you like. artist and title. Repeat throughout the course of a week or however long it takes you until you get 30+ songs. Download songs to a music cd through the use of a program such as Sony Sonic Stage so it is legal. Songs cost a dollar each mostly. Put cd into player and set on mp3 make for cd. Play cd on random so the order is variant each time you hear it. Or play cd straight through and try to have songs which have abalance to them ie upbeat song such as “How to save a life” by Fray followed by a slower song called Enya “May it Be.” Another good example of a song to be used is “Shimmer” by Fuel. Good songs used for studying when one is feel stressed out or in an all or nothing attitude on whether they will ace or fail the test can be countered by classical songs such as Star Wars.

I seem to be very sensitive to music depending on my moods. I’ve learned that sometimes it is best for me to TURN OFF the radio.

Your idea might be good. Sometimes music can be downright hypnotic to me. So a CD of uplifting “happy” music could truly sooth the savage beast.

What does this mean, “Psychodynamically”?

Question by Caitlyn: What does this mean, “Psychodynamically”?
I am reading an article for my class that deals with music therapy. Most of this article uses words such as “improvisational music therapy” and “improvisational, psychodynamically oriented music therapy”. Would anybody know a more simpler way of putting this? Because without knowing exactly what these mean I wont be able to understand the article. I have looked them up on the internet but I want a second opinion. Thanks so much!

The study of human behavior from the point of view of motivation and drives, depending largely on the functional significance of emotion, and based on the assumption that an individual’s total personality and reactions at any given time are the product of the interaction between his genetic constitution and his environment is psychodynamics.

Did you get it? Its super tough to explain with words!

PS – why isnt this question is psychology section?
